Active carbon is a physical form of carbon obtained after being subjected to high temperature and pressure, which has increased number of pores and surface area for adsorption processes and chemical reactions. Active carbon is used as an odor and hydrocarbon molecule retainer in this form.

Active carbon towers must be used in pharmaceutical, electronical, smelting and in similar industries in which sensitive equipment is used. Other hydrocarbon molecules can be absorbed by active carbon. AAG Active Carbon Towers are single-tower oil retainers filled with active carbon absorbent material.

It works on the principle of oil mist and hydrocarbon molecule retention by absorption. The absorbent material will continue decreasing the oil amount in pressurized air to very low amounts until saturation, after which it will no perform filtration. After saturation, the active carbon must be discarded and replaced.
